Julie Hurt studied at the University of Wollongong and completed a Bachelor of Education in Primary Education. Julie has always loved designing and creating and throughout her years of study she was able to supplement her income by making and selling tye dyed ties, decorated hair combs as well as selling her hand embroidered calico skirts and tops to clothing outlets.
Throughout her teaching career, Julie’s creativity was put to good use not only in the delivery of her lessons but also in completing many major artworks with her students.
Once Julie retired from teaching, she found that she had the time and the creative urge to get busy once again and branch out into various art endeavours.
She is very thankful to have been accepted as a member of Artisans Nest and to be able to work and play in the company of such talented artists. At the moment Julie creates mosaics, using old recycled crockery and also seed pods, gum nuts and native seeds which she gathers from all over Australia and also from her property on the South Coast. She also loves to sew and embroider stunning fabrics which she sews onto Denim Jackets and jeans. Just at the moment Julie is busy hand dying recycled men’s and unisex shirts using the Shibori technique.
Here are some examples of work that is in the Nest. Please note stock does turn over, so if you like something do contact me.
